“RESIST THE DEVIL AND HE WILL FLEE FROM YOU.” This is a call to action, if we didn’t need to resist the devil then we wouldn’t have gotten this instruction in the first place.
Notice that it didn’t say that the devil will flee from us just because we’re God’s children, no, he would come, just like he came for Job and when he comes, we are to resist him (this is why we have the Armor of God to resist the fiery darts of the devil) .
Notice also that it did not say we should negotiate with, discuss with, argue with or engage the devil, he said to resist him.
Christianity is a life of dominion. God has already done everything He needs to do concerning the devil, it’s now our responsibility to either permit him or resist him and put him to flight. Jesus said all power has been given to him, not some power, but all. If he has all power, what then does the devil have really?
How do we resist the devil? To resist the devil, we use God’s word against him. Remember that in the armor of God, God’s word is the sword of the spirit, each time you speak the word, you’re waving that sword in his face and he’d flee from you. When Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness, we see how he used the scripture to resist him. (Matthew 4:1-11) This is one reason why the importance of having the word of God in our spirit cannot be overemphasized.
We are asked to resist the devil because we are capable of doing so as God’s children. The Lord wouldn’t ask us to do something that we cannot do, all that we need is wrapped up in the word.
Do have a great day, may the favor of our Lord surround you like a shield. ❤️
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
