Count Your Blessings!

Today is the first day and also the first Sunday of March 2020, I hope it’s not too early to ask how the year has been so far. Things might not be going exactly as you expected, well today’s nugget is on counting our blessings, a very practicable act. Sometimes we may not know how good the Lord has been to us until we begin to take stock of our blessings, especially when it seems like everything is going wrong. Look out for whatever God has done for you and thank him for it, regardless of how small and insignificant it may seem. You might ask ‘what has God really done for me?’ it’s in those little things that may go unnoticed; He is always there in the background with love.

If you’re a Christian then I assume you might be familiar with the hymn ‘count your blessings’ by Johnson Oatman. It’s one of my favorite hymns and today, I want you to read and digest it slowly, it is a very delicious hymn, always ministers comfort and strength to me.

When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,

When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,

Count your many blessings, name them one by one,

And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Count your blessings, name them one by one;

Count your blessings, see what God hath done;

Count your blessings, name them one by one;

Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?

Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?

Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,

And you will be singing as the days go by. (Refrain)

When you look at others with their lands and gold,

Think that Christ has promised you his wealth untold;

Count your many blessings, money cannot buy,

Your reward in heaven nor your home on high. (Refrain)

So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,

Do not be discouraged, God is over all;

Count your many blessings, angels will attend,

Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end. (Refrain)

Beautiful hymn, isn’t it? I hope this hymn inspires gratitude in you as it does to me. May we never forget to count our blessings, no matter the circumstances we might face, we are blessed even more than we know! See you soon.
