Today is the third Sunday in this beautiful month of February and the nugget for today is “Spiritual Workout”, because life is spiritual, and we ought to pay attention to the spiritual. Like we saw in the previous nuggets this month, Man is a spirit that has a soul and lives in a body. Our physical bodies need exercise and food to keep fit, so does our spirit. Just as you would know when to visit the gym, you likewise would know when to visit the spiritual gym. If you observe that the fire and zeal you once had is dwindling, then it’s time to visit the spiritual gym.
(1Timothy 4:8 AMP) “ For physical training is of some value, but godliness (spiritual training) is of value in everything and in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and for the life to come”
The Message translation hits the nail on the head some more;
(1 Timothy 4:8 AMP) “Exercise daily in God-no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever”
As important as physical exercise is, spiritual exercise is more beneficial both in this life and in that which is to come. The fire of our spirits got ignited when we got born again, but it’s up to us to continually stir up that fire or let it burn out.
Life is spiritual, we tend to focus more on the physical, but it’s not the best, it’s not even wise. We feed and exercise our bodies, our spirits need such dedication too, we ought to feed and exercise our spirits with God’s word, meditation, worship and prayer.
How do we exercise our spirits? We do that through studying God’s word (The Bible), praying, fellowshipping, spreading the gospel and engaging in other spiritual activities. (Ephesians 5:18-20) This is obtainable when there’s a hunger and desire for more of God in us.
Physical exercise is never always sweet or easy, but consistency makes it easier, today you do ten pushups, tomorrow you do twenty and soon you start to enjoy it and the results start showing. It’s the same with spiritual workout, it’s a gradual process, once our minds and hearts are into it, we’d just discover that our spirits are becoming strengthened
We ought to exercise and feed our spirits regularly, sharpen our spiritual senses because as God’s children, the spiritual life should be natural to us. See you soon.
