What does God want?🤔

Hello dear reader, thanks for stopping by…

You know, some years back, I would have seen this topic as being braggadocios, like, how do I even know what God wants?… Well, in Christianity we grow and learn continually. Let me start with three reasons why I think I should know what God wants.

1. God is our father: If you have a relationship with someone, to some extent, you should know what that person wants. I know what my earthly daddy wants and expects from me. We have a relationship with God, we’ve been called to sonship, so God is much more a father to us than any earthly father could ever be.

“The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children”. Romans 8:16 (NIV)

2. The Holy Spirit: God in us, comforter, counsellor, helper, strengthener, standby, teacher, advocate. He’s in us, confirming his every word, he’s our guide, with him, we’re guided aright to what God wants.

“But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26 (NIV)

3. The Bible: Our manual for life, God inspired, also shows us and tells us what God wants. This is why fellowship with, and personal study of the Bible is important. If you don’t know what’s in the Bible, you can’t apply it to your life, and there’s a lot of beautiful truth in there to help us sail through life according to the will of God.

“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:8 (NIV)

So basically speaking, we ought to know what God wants, first because he is our father, we have the gift of the Holy Spirit and his word is there to guide us.

Now, to the real gist, What Does God Want???  Sometimes, I wonder, what if I was born in the time of Moses, with all those laws to abide by, I don’t even want to imagine it😮. But thank God for what Jesus Christ did for us.

“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” John 1:17 (NIV).

“Christ is the end of the Law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.” Romans 10:4 (NIV)

The Bible verses above is just to let us know that there is really no long list of dos and donts and it’s not difficult to know and do what God wants. God is a caring father, he only requires from us what we can give. So, let’s go…. God wants:

1. Our Hearts
2. Our presence
3. Our Love

Our Hearts
I know a popular song, “Lord I give you my heart, I give you my soul, I live for you alone, every step that I take, every moment I’m awake, Lord have your way in me”.
Beautiful song isn’t it?
God needs our hearts, you know how it is when your heart is with something, just like my heart is with aglowblog 🤗, you yearn for it, you desire it, you sleep and wake up with thoughts of it, you give it time and attention. God isn’t going to force you to give him your heart, no!, he doesn’t violate our will. Come to think of it, even the best thing that ever happened to mankind “salvation” is not forced, you get to make a choice to accept it. David in the Bible, he was described as the man after God’s heart, he was by no means the most morally upright person, come on, he messed up too, so what earned him that title, His heart was with God.
Amidst the business and hustle and bustle of life, never forget that God needs your heart and your attention too.

Our Presence
I used to think, but God is everywhere, he’s with me everywhere, true!. God is everywhere, but his manifested presence is not everywhere. Come to think of it, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Samuel, Jesus to mention but a few, they set time apart to spend with God, to offer him their presence. Five minutes in your closet or out of your closet, withdrawn from the rest of the world and dedicated to fellowship with God, either through talking with Him in prayers or worshipping or studying the word, those are special times, not just for God our father, but also for our spiritual growth.
Now this brings me to the question “must I go to church?”  O Yes, you should go to church, you ought to belong in a local church. God is everywhere, he’s Omnipresent, true, but by availing your presence in church, you’re honouring him. It’s important to make yourself available in church, there’s a reason why the church was instituted, God knew we would need the church, it’s called the Body of Christ for a reason, it’s too important not to stray from the body. Everybody who goes to church is not necessarily right, but anyone who doesn’t go isn’t pleasing God either.

Our Love
It’s so easy to scream “I love you Lord!”, especially when there’s a miracle or testimony… Do we really love him? David made a lot of mistakes, but his love for God set him apart. Love is all encompassing, when you love God, you give him your heart, your attention, your time, and your presence. When God has your love, you can be sure of anything.
Guide your emotions unto God, that’s how to give him your love, crush on him, fall in love with him, he’s the surest person truly in love with you. If he can get to your mind, he can get to your spirit. When you get to truly understand the depth of God’s love for you, you’d just fall back on that love.

So, my dear reader I hope I was able to share my thoughts on what God wants from us. God has emotions too, emotions that should not be played with. He loves us recklessly, we ought to love him back, like really love him. He is very much interested in our lives and shouldn’t be left out of it.
