I’m a reader, I love to read books, less of school textbooks, more of novels and history books anyway. Thanks to my dad who always made books available to me even as a little girl, that was the beginning of the Readaholic me. I’ve traveled the world through the pages of the books that I’ve read. I’ve been to Russia, France, Canada, New York, South Africa, Afghanistan, Biafra, you name it.
I’ve related with poverty, wealth, religion, power, love, extravagance, betrayal, obsession, slavery etc. I know of World Wars I and II, I’ve been on the battlefield, seen the agonizing terror of war, the destruction and hopelessness that comes with it, I’ve seen families torn apart and scattered abroad, I’ve seen the beauty and fragility of love, I’ve seen death and life. I’ve been with the rich and powerful, I’ve been in castles of Dukes and Kings, I’ve also been with the unfortunate, poor and wretched, I’ve seen the overwhelming and yet helpless humiliation of slavery. I’ve flown planes, delivered babies, restored relationships, hunted killers, discovered secrets, rescued captives.
I’ve been to the 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. I’ve been to the world of Aristotle, Leonardo Da Vinci, Apostle Paul, Ceaser Augustus, Alexander the great, Queen Mary, Abraham Lincoln, Odumegwu Ojukwu, Barrack Obama, and Mohammed Buhari.
When I open the pages of a book, I enter the book, I see and relate with the characters. I could shed tears or jump for joy, I flow with the emotions in the book, I become a passive character in the story, the spectator.
I appreciate writers and authors who have in their own way shared a part of them with readers like me, and taken us to their part of the world, helping us learn and know. I love to think that reading is essential, I’m a reader and I’ll keep reading and exploring, while creating my own masterpiece….
I love books so much, most times that’s where my money, time and attention goes, books keep me aglow in its own way.
Are you readaholic like me or you’d rather not do books? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.
